UIUC model configurations
The UIUC regional ensemble consists of models run with the following configurations:
- General: multi-physics, all initialized with the NCEP Eta 212 grid.
- Domains: two, 125x103 and 118x112.
- Grid spacing: 36/12-km horizontal, 23 half-sigma layers.
- Physics: Simple ice (Dudhia), multi-layer soil model, shallow convection, and
the following combinations:
- MM5a: Blackadar PBL, Grell cumulus parameterization
- MM5b: Blackadar PBL, Kain-Fritsch CUPA
- MM5c: Eta-Mellor-Yamada PBL, Grell CUPA
- MM5c: Eta-Mellor-Yamada PBL, Kain-Fritsch CUPA
- Model information: here.
- General: multi-analysis, using either the Eta 212 or GFS analyses
- Domains: one, 107x179
- Grid spacing: approx. 12 km horizontal, 38 levels

- General: multi-analysis, multi-resolution and multi-physics
- Version: 1.3, mass dynamical core, using 3rd-order Runge-Kutta
- Initialization: Eta 212 or GFS analyses
- Domains and grid spacing: one grid, 66x64 (24-km) or 131x127 (12-km); 31 levels
- Physics:
- Control: NCEP 3-class microphysics, Dudhia SW radiation,
MRF PBL, Eta-KF cumulus parameterization, thermal diffusion
(control runs use both 24- and 12-km grid spacing, and both
Eta 212 and GFS initial & boundary condition data)
- WRF-E: control configuration but with NCEP 5-class microphysics.
- WRF-F: control, but Lin et. al. microphysics
- WRF-G: control, but BMJ cumulus parameterization.
- WRF-H: control, but using Goddard SW radiation
- WRF-I: control, but using MYJ PBL and surface
- WRF-J: control, but using OSU land surface physics
- WRF [E-J] are all run at 24 km.
